Family 13 – Virginia>Kentucky/Oklahoma/Tennessee/Missouri (R1b1a2)

This early SWVA Davi(d)son family is primarily represented by James Davi(d)son “I” who died in 1794 in Russell Co, VA. His widow was named Catherine. The parents of James “I” have not been identified. The family settled on Big Moccasin Creek on 1 Jan. 1774. His sons were Revolutionary War Soldier James Davi(d)son “Junior/II” (died 1826 in Scott Co., VA) and wife Margaret Unknown; Joseph Davi(d)son (d 1826 Scott Co, VA) and wife Mary Edwards; Revolutionary War Soldier Daniel Davi(d)son (d Perry Co, KY after 1823) and second wife Sarah White; and the youngest son William Davi(d)son (died c1810) and wife Elizabeth Unknown. Daniel and his large family removed to Clay County, KY by 1807. This Daniel has long been confused by researchers with other Daniel Davidsons. James II and Joseph remained in Russell/Scott Counties. Both left wills and documented their children. James II had two sons Goldman (married Elizabeth Wills) and Robert (married Cynthia Chadwell) who left many descendants in the tri-state area. Joseph had two sons, David and John, but neither left male descendants. Records suggest William left descendants but they have not been identified.

A recent and very important DNA match was found in a descendant of a later William Davidson of Scott Co and his wife Sally Sturgill. It is not yet known how this William fits into Family 13. DNA testing also shows Family 13 is related to one Andrew Davison of Harrison Co, (West) Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana) and his wife Bridget Haley. Both tradition and research suggests this Davison family (NOT to be confused with the NJ Davisson family of Harrison Co; that is DNA “Family 2”) may have originally come from Monmouth County, NJ (research in progress). This DNA match is the only clue we have that James Davison I may also have come from NJ.
